January 24, 1957 — January 3, 2020

Allen Eugene “Gene” Schoonover, 62, gained his wings on January 3, 2020 at his home in Grove, Oklahoma after a brief illness.

Gene was born January 24, 1957 in Watonga, Oklahoma to Tommy and Martha Schoonover. He graduated from Canton High School in 1975.  After high school, Gene became a Welder for Willis Welding and married Vicky Woolman, his high school sweet heart.  They had one son named Jeremy who was born on July 11, 1976 and were married until 1989.

After leaving his welding career, Gene decided to get into law enforcement and became a motorcycle copy in Enid Oklahoma in 1981. In his time there, he helped to mentor the youth and kept the streets safe.  Upon leaving Enid, his law enforcement career continued in Canton, Oklahoma aw their Chief of Police. Gene went on to work for Blain County as a Deputy, as well as Garfield County.  During this time he met his wife Lisa.  Gene married Lisa on July 14, 1991, and they were married until June of 2005.  After leaving Blain County, they lived a short while in Colorado and went back to welding with a construction company.  Gene and Lisa moved back to Jenks Oklahoma where he became and officer and worked up to the rank of Sergeant.  Gene worked for the Jenks Police Department from 1997 until 2015 when he retired from law enforcement.  After retirement, Gene donated his time to the Tulsa police department armory until he moved to Grove to be close to his family.  Gene was very passionate about his roll as an officer and put everything he had into the job.  While he loved being an officer, he also loved riding motorcycles, especially his Harley.  Through riding, he met some of the best friends and family that he could have ever met and made some amazing memories.  Gene never met a stranger and he was always willing to help when needed.  He had a very loving and caring heart, especially hen it came to his son and his grandchildren. Gene never hesitated to tell you how proud he was of each of them, and how amazed he was at the young adults that they were becoming, as well as how proud he was of the man and father Jeremy had become.  Gene will be greatly missed by his many friends and family, especially his son and grandkids.
