Barbara Gonzalez

Barbara Ann (Smith) Gonzalez age 74 passed away on Thursday September 9, 2021.  Barbara was born on November 11, 1946, to Delmar Smith and Helen (Neagle) Smith in Pittsburg Kansas.  Barbara was raised in the Wichita area and graduated in 1965 from Derby High School in Derby, Kansas.  Barb attended College at Friends University as well as Wichita State.  Barbara married Alejandro M. Gonzalez Jr. (Cano) in Burlington, Iowa on August 24, 1968.  Barbara and Cano moved to current home place in Wyandotte, Oklahoma in March of 1973. Barbara and Cano raised 4 boys and helped with 2 nephews in the Grove School System, Tony Gonzalez and wife Angie (Wyandotte), Jose and wife Denisha (Wyandotte), Dallas and wife Malinda (Racine, MO) Vince and wife April (Grove) Paul and wife Stacy (Grove) and Ruben and Erika (Grove).  Barbara had 11 Grand Children and 5 Great-Grand Children.

She is proceeded in death by her Parents Delmar and Helen, her Husband Cano and one son Dallas.  She is survived by two sisters: Wynema and John Harris (Grove), Ramona and the late Jack Wise (Wyandotte), two brothers: Reid and Jeanie Smith (Wichita) and Vince and Donna Smith (Tahlequah).  Barbara was a proud Member of the Seneca – Cayuga Nation of Oklahoma, and even served on the council in the late 80’s and 90’s. She worked at Seneca Indian School in Wyandotte in the 1970’s.  Barbara will lie in state at the Seneca-Cayuga Tribal Community Building and will be buried at Council House Cemetery. Barbara was well versed in Tribal History and Genealogy and studied the American Civil War.  She loved her family very much.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Council House Cemetery in Wyandotte, Oklahoma.
