Betty Hooks

ARNOLD MOORE & NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME, BARTLESVILLE, OK (918) 336-5225 - Betty Louise Hooks, age 82 and a resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away early Monday, February 6, 2017 at her home. Betty Louise Hooks was born May 1, 1934 at Bartlesville, Oklahoma to David Ponder and Annie Mae (Hardeman) Ponder. She grew up in Bartlesville, graduating from Douglass High School, there. Betty then attended the University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff and later was married to Rudolph Yarbrough. To this union, a son, Ricky was born. Betty and Rudolph divorced and she would later be wed to David Hooks. The family moved to California and Betty was employed as Administrative Assistant to the Los Angeles Board of Education. After she and Mr. Hooks divorced, Betty moved back to Bartlesville, where she gained employment with the Army Corps of Engineers, serving as Administrative Assistant until her retirement. Betty was a faithful caregiver to her mother, Annie Mae, until her passing in 1994. Betty was an active and vital member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served as head of the Benevolence Committee, Church Administrative Clerk and Financial Secretary. She spent many hours reading books on spiritual matters. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and loved to travel with her niece, Janett Taylor. Betty is survived by one brother, Melvin Ponder and his wife, Mary of Bartlesville and by many nieces, nephews and cousins, including Janett Taylor of Wichita, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her son, Ricky Yarbrough in 2008; by one sister, Katherine Harris and by five brothers, Willie Claud, Frederick, Richard, John Leroy and Alex Eugene Ponder. Services for Mrs. Hooks will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 in the chapel of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home with Pastors Wilford Brown and Michael Diggs, officiating. Interment will be White Rose Cemetery, following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
