Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, (918) 256 - 5555 -------Bob Raymond Thompson, 96 year old rural Vinita resident, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at his home. He was born on March 2, 1919 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma to Jeff and Jettie (Murphy) Thompson. Bob served his country during World War II as a combat medic in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded two bronze medals, theatre ribbon, good conduct medal, WW II victory medal and America theatre ribbon. On July 25, 1946 Bob married Helen Jenkins in Twin Falls, Idaho, 68 years of marriage, she preceded him in death just this past January. In 1957 Bob and his brother Bud built, Bob and Helen's home, that they lived in until their death. He was a self-employed rancher, living in the area for the past 60 plus years. He was a member of the Baptist faith. One of Bob's hobby's was fishing in his ponds with his granddaughter Renee. Preceding him in death were: his wife Helen, parents; sisters, Jessie and Estell Thompson; three brothers, Lee "Bud" Thompson, Bill Thompson and Vernon Thompson. The family includes: his son Gary R. Thompson and wife Charlene; daughter Nancy Thompson-Simmons; Sisters Helen Miller and Pauline Wise; granddaughter Dr. Renee Thompson Carter and husband Dr. Joel Carter; great-grandchildren, Lilly, Noah and Eli Carter. Special caregivers Debbie and Jim Williams. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Luginbuel South Grand Lake Chapel in Langley. The graveside service and Military Rites will be held at the Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Skip McClain officiating.
