Bobby Charles

Bobby (Bob) Harlton Charles, 72, of Big Cabin, passed on to his heavenly home January 4, 2007 while surrounded by his family at home, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on June 4, 1934 in Pryor, OK to Stephen Harlton and Wilma Lorene (Fielden) Charles. He was a lifelong resident of the Big Cabin area graduating from Big Cabin High School in 1953; he then married LaVern Pitts on Aug. 8, 1953 in Big Cabin. In 1950, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior and was baptized in Big Cabin Creek. He was a deacon and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Big Cabin. He enjoyed teaching, Bible study, and many church activities. He was an avid Bible scholar and a master at Bible trivia. Bob loved others and was dearly loved. He enjoyed gardening and produced some of the best homegrown strawberries. He loved sports, especially baseball. Throughout his life, he participated as a player, coach and fan. His favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed traveling on family vacations and seeing the country. He frequently visited Treasure Lake Resort in Branson and enjoyed miniature golf and the many other activities with his family. For many years, Bob was the Parts Manager for Bartgis Chevrolet and later for C.R. Moore Motor Co. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Harlton Charles. He is survived by his wife-LaVern 3 Children and their spouses- Sherry and Rick Tuell of Pryor, Dana and Joe Collins of Vinita, and Robert and Sandy Charles of Bartlesville. His Mother-Lorene Charles of Vinita. 2 Brothers and 1 Sister and their spouses; Leon and Fay Charles of Vinita, Ruby and Rex Horner of Centerville, TN and Larry and Pat Charles of Shepherdsville, KY Grandchildren; Jennifer and Matt Hinson, Courtney Collins, John T. Collins, all of rural Vinita, Ryan Charles and Shannon Charles both of Bartlesville. Great-Grandchildren; Kelsey Hinson, Kylie Hinson, Matthew Hinson and Lillian Hinson, all of rural Vinita, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Big Cabin with Brother Thom Duncan and Pastor Larry Jackson officiating. Casket Bearers will be; John Cruse, Cecil Egnor, Harry Guthrie, Gary Coppedge, Roy Brooks and Craig Chisum. Honorary Bearers will be Norman Tuell, Jon Piercy, Bill Irons, Bill McKee, Ron Fuller, Ernie Jones and Bill Goins. Burial will be in the Big Cabin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the First Baptist Church of Big Cabin Building Fund, P.O. Box 176, Big Cabin, OK 74332 or to St. Francis Hospice of Vinita, 104 S. 3rd, Vinita, OK 74301.
