Bonita Thomas

Bonita Kay Thomas, age 70, and resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Bonita Kay Sorenson was born on September 22, 1943 in New England, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Delver Sorenson and Margaret Marie (Fredrick) Sorenson. She grew up in North Dakota. She attended grade school at St. Mary's Grade School in New England, North Dakota and she graduated high school with the New England Senior Class of 1961. After high school graduation, Bonita moved to California before moving to the Kansas City area. She moved to Coffeyville, Kansas (1977-79); then to Nowata County (1979-2000). In 2000, she came to Bartlesville before moving in November 2012 to be near her daughter in Ponca City. Bonita married Henry D. Hamilton in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1968. Two children, James and Janet, were born of this union. In 1977, Bonita married John Thomas in Miami, Oklahoma. Bonita received her CMA (Certified Medical Aide) certificate in 1990. She was always known as a very dedicated worker. From 1985 to 2002, she worked at Forrest Manor Nursing Home in Dewey, Oklahoma; from 2002 to 2005, she was employed at Shawn Manor Nursing Home in Ponca City; and from 2006 to November 2012, she worked at Forrest Manor Nursing Home in Dewey, Oklahoma. Bonita loved her family and enjoyed being with them. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to the Grand Ole Opry. She will be missed by all her family and her many friends and acquaintances. Survivors include her children, Janet K. Lewis and her husband, Larry, of Ponca City, and James D. Hamilton of Nowata, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amanda K. Boone, Nicole Leigh Boone, Shane Hamilton, and Hailey Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Bria Nicole Boone and Zackery Lawson; brother, Clifford L. Sorenson and his wife, Marci, of Green River, Wyoming; and sister, Clara I. Durall of Greenville, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Ricky J. Thomas in 1977.
