Calvin John Berry Jr., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 20, 2019 at his home in Vinita, OK, while surrounded by his loving family. Calvin was born on April 14, 1930 to Calvin Sr. and Sally (Benson) Berry.
Calvin attended schools in Craig County. He worshiped at the Vinita Church of Christ. Calvin was known by many for his excellent sculpting abilities. It was once said that “nature produces wood but Calvin enhances what nature makes, creating the extension of a personality which is rooted in the earth and its creatures.” Calvin has exhibited his art in several states, including Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas and Texas, he even taught woodcarving at Tulsa University and Northeastern Vo-Tech. Calvin has won numerous awards in competition at shows such as S.O.C.A.A. in Oklahoma City, Arkansas City Arts Festival and others. Outside of carving, he loved to fish and play dominos but mostly he enjoyed spending time with family, friends and loved ones. Calvin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin Sr, and Sally (Benson) Berry, first wife, Junetta Berry, Sisters, Ada Griggs, Vivian Jackson, and Wanda Riley, brothers, George Berry and Maynard Benson, step son, Charles Scott.
Calvin is survived by his wife Joan of the home, his daughters, Elizabeth Hudson, Scarlett Berry and Carmen Ross, sons, Calvin Berry III, Daniel Berry and Lawrence Sayles, sisters, Zeophie Arrington and Marzetta Hicks, along with 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 7 great- great grandchildren, and many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral service celebrating the life of Calvin will be held on Monday July 29, 2019 at the Vinita Church of Christ, services starting at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bob Hampton officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday July 28, 2019 in the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel from 3:00 PM thru 5:00 PM. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, OK.
