Carl Hicks

Carl J. Hicks, passed away at his home in Jay, OK, on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the age of 84. Carl was born September 27, 1928 in Strang, OK, the son of the late Richard C. Hicks and Bertha (Fields) Hicks. While Carl was in his youth, he and his family moved to various places including Texas and California as field workers. Carl joined the United States Army and served his country in WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1947 and in December of 1947, he married Norma Jean Staten in Strang, OK. In 1952 Carl went to work for Lockheed Aircraft in Bakersfield, CA. After the plant closed down he stayed with the company but transferred to the plant in Burbank, CA. Carl retired from aerospace in the early 1990's. He moved back to the Jay area in 2010. Carl had a passion for playing poker but he truly enjoyed and loved his family, especially his grandkids. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his two sons: Richard Hicks and his wife Susan of Sioux City, IA, and David Earl Hicks and his wife Kathy of San Diego, CA; one daughter Beverly Denise Jamieson and her husband Craig of Boise, ID; six grandchildren: Alicia Jamieson, Emily O'Hearn and her husband John, Johnathon Hicks, Kaitlin Hicks, Bridey Hicks, and Meagan Hopp and her husband Bradley; and five great grandchildren: Julius Hopp, Faith Hopp, Harrison Hopp, Evelyn Hopp, and Kai O'Hearn. He is also survived by his Hicks family nephews and niece in the Jay area: Allen, Bill, Hubert, Clifford, Bruce, Bonnie Sue and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister. The funeral service will be held graveside at Spavinaw Strang Cemetery on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 2PM with Mr. Doug Rainbolt, presiding.
