Carney Heard

Carney E. Heard 91, of Bartlesville passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Jane Phillips Medical Center. Carney was born on September 21, 1917 to Charles Denson and Ira Vela (Wallace) Heard in Cass County, Texas. He received his education in Lakewood, New Mexico graduating from High School there. Carney started work with the Kanotex refinery in Arkansas City where he met Helen. Carney E. Heard and Helen Mingle were married in Arkansas City, Kansas in May of 1939. Soon after their marriage they made there home in Bartlesville, where Carney was employed with the Phillips Petroleum Company. During World War II Carney enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Blue Ridge. He was preceded in death by Helen on June 27, 1983. On June 30, 1990 Carney Married Tomasita Samaripa in Bartlesville; together they enjoyed playing with their great grandchildren and were regulars at the 55 Plus Club. Carney was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bartlesville and was very active in the Choir and his Sunday School Class. Tomasita preceded him in death on March 24 of this year. Carney is survived by his son Richard Heard of Joplin, Missouri one step son Louis "Ernie" Samaripa and his wife Linda of Bartlesville, five granddaughters Rhonda Heard of Denver, Renee Heard of Chicago, Amy Loughman of Shawnee, Kansas, Kelli McDowell of Broken Arrow and Angie Stuart of Pawhuska, two grandsons Ryan Heard of Denver and Justin Stuart of Okmulgee, one great granddaughter, three great grandsons, one sister Bonnie Gregory and numerous other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Heard, his second wife Tomasita Heard his parents Charles Denson and Ira Vela (Wallace) Heard, four brothers and one sister. Honorary pallbearers include Ed Tolstrup, Cliff Schornick, Armand Villarreal, Oscar Villarreal and Don Antle. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Deb Hendricks, 3470 SE Frank Phillips Blvd., Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74006. Funeral services for Mr. Heard are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 18, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Dan Fowler officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded Mr. Heard in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
