Chris Leith

Chris B. Leith, 82, of Jay, Oklahoma went home to be with her Lord at 1:25 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2009 at Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove, Oklahoma. Chris was born October 4, 1926 in Sycamore, Oklahoma to Chester and Verna (Easley) Duncan. She graduated from Jay High School in 1943. After high school, she moved to Kansas City where she married and began raising her two sons. In 1961, she returned to Jay where she later worked in the Delaware County Treasurers office for several years under Tom Earp. Chris was a former member of the Jay Baptist Church and had attended Zena Baptist Church until her health no longer allowed. Chris was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and bird watching. She married Jess Willard Leith on April 29, 1966. They owned and operated Big Hollow Resort on Grand Lake for over 30 years. Chris and Jess both greatly enjoyed the variety of people and the ensuing relationships that developed during their time at Big Hollow Resort. Survivors include her husband, Jess W. Leith of Jay; three sons, Bill Heilman and his wife Chris of Derby, Kansas, Dick Heilman and his wife Vickie of Kansas City, Missouri, and Steve Leith of Claremore, Oklahoma; one sister, Juanita Armstrong and her husband James of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Chris is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Chris at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Oklahoma with Reverend Rick Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Duffield Cemetery, Jay, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Clinton Creasen, Mark Hale, Jason Leith, John Leith, Matt Mathews, and Jim Mathias. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Maynard and Kurt Blessing. The family suggests memorials to Grove Public Library, 1140 NEO Loop, Grove, OK 74344.
