January 11, 1926 — February 12, 2014

Benjamin Funeral Service - Nowata - Lifelong Nowata resident Clarence Frederick (Fred) Brannan (88) passed away Saturday, April 12, at the VA Nursing Center in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was born January 11, 1926 in Nowata to Cecil and Vernie (Young) Brannan. Fred attended Nowata Schools and was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He served in the European theater where he participated in several major campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge. He was honored with three Bronze Stars for his heroism and service, and was discharged in 1946. Fred had a very strong work ethic working for several machine and oil companies in Bartlesville, Coffeyville, and Nowata, and retired after 24 years with National Zink where he was an industrial blacksmith. On October 21 he married the love of his life, Shirley Bean. They made their home in Nowata where they raised two daughters, Jerri and Jodi. Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at Lakemont Shores on Grand Lake. He raised some really good gardens and liked working outside. Fred never met a stranger. He would make friends with everyone and always had a good sense of humor. Fred was a member of the Hillside Christian Church. Above all he did, his greatest attribute was his love for his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were so dear to his heart and he loved them with everything he did. Fred will be missed by all who knew him.
