Dean Howard Means, 70, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at his home in Grove, Oklahoma. He was born on February 4, 1939 in Maud, Oklahoma to Howard and Harriet (Turner) Means. Dean graduated from West High School in Wichita, Kansas in 1957 and completed the apprenticeship program at Local Union #171 now #441. He married Florence Smith in Pittsburg, Kansas on November 19, 1960. Dean worked as a piping supervisor for Central Air Conditioning Co. for forty years before his retirement in 2001. He was a 50-year member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #441 in Wichita, Kansas where he served in many capacities and on many committees. Dean loved fishing, high school football, and OU football and basketball. He had a strong affiliation with Special Olympics in Kansas. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Downing & and Lahey Funeral Home Chapel (West) with Charlene Micelli officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics of Kansas or Good Shepherd Hospice of Grove, Oklahoma.
