Monkey Island, OK - Donald George Pond died Friday, August 4, 2006 at St. Johns Hospital at Joplin, Mo. He was 68. Don was born in Afton, OK, September 5, 1937, to Rufus Walter Pond and Ruth Winnie (Seaton) Pond. He worked at Coal Mines drilling shafts ever since he was 16 years old. Don also worked at Baker & Taylor Drilling, retiring as a project manager in 1989. He was a Mason and Shriner; he had a deep passion for the Shriner's Hospital. He enjoyed rodeos, deep sea fishing and fly fishing, fishing all over the country. Don also had a love for Labrador Retrievers and leaves behind his dog Ginger. Don married Francis (Sturgeon) Pond September 19, 1987. She survives. Additional survivors includes his children: Rocky Don Pond of Martin , TN; Teri Dawn Crabtree of South Fulton, TN; and step-daughter Deatta Sparks of Spearman, TX. One brother: Bobby Eugene Pond of Pearland, TX; and one sister, Jewel Mae Barker of Monkey Island, OK; Four grandchildren: Kayla, Joshua, Ashley, Dustin, Six step-grandchildren: Dalton, Shyloh, Cheyenne, Heather, David, and Jensin and several loving nieces, nephews, and special cousins. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 7, 2006, at Lake Center Baptist Church, Monkey Island, OK. Rev. Kim Hayes will officiate. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Hansford Cemetery in Spearman, TX. Bill Watson will be the graveside speaker. Services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home at Grove, OK.
