Donald Spurgeon

Donald Leon Spurgeon, 82, Monkey Island resident, died December 31, 2010 at Grove Nursing Center. He was born September 18, 1928 in Labette County, Kansas to Curtis A. and Olive E. Spurgeon. He grew up in the Labette County area and graduated from Altamont High School. Donald married Mary Ann (Blackwell) Spurgeon on January 15, 1948 in Parsons, Kansas. They lived in Wichita, Kansas until his retirement from Kreonite as a Plant Manager, they then moved to Monkey Island. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, square dancing, and traveling. He was a member of the Lake Center Baptist Church. Donald is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his sister, Maxine and husband Joe Callahan; children Sandra Koropsak and husband William, Patricia Dickerson and husband Jerry, David Spurgeon and wife Barbara, and Russell Spurgeon and wife Kayleen; Five grandchildren, five step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters. A service celebrating Donald's Life will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday January 5, 2011 at Lake Center Baptist Church, 29020 Hwy 125 on Monkey Island. Interment of Donald's cremains will be follow in the Mitchell Cemetery in Oswego, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald's memory to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org Services are entrusted to Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove.
