Dorothy Lee Flood, age 101, a beloved member of her community and a cherished wife, was born on March 7, 1924, in Oklahoma. She peacefully passed away on March 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and resilience.
Dorothy's early years were shaped by both joy and hardship. She lost her mother at the tender age of five, an experience that left a lasting mark on her and cultivated her nurturing spirit. Growing up in a large family with two brothers and a sister, Dorothy found strength in her bond with them, especially after her father remarried and added five more children to the family. As the youngest sibling, she often recalled being showered with affection and kindness, a cherished “baby” in a lively, loving home.
A pivotal chapter in Dorothy's life began when she met her beloved husband, Virgil, during the time of World War II. Their love blossomed as Virgil, serving his country, wrote to Dorothy every day. Their heartfelt exchanges became the foundation of a deep and enduring connection, as Dorothy eagerly awaited each letter. Their shared love for one another and their faith stood as a testament to their unwavering bond.
Throughout their life together, Dorothy lovingly supported Virgil’s career, and in the process, formed lasting friendships with many people he worked with. Her commitment to her faith was central to her life — an active member of the Church of Christ in Independence, Missouri, Dorothy cherished the opportunity to work alongside Virgil in their church community. Their shared faith was a cornerstone of their relationship, guiding them through both joy and hardship.
Although Dorothy and Virgil did not have children of their own, she was a motherly figure to many. Her love extended far beyond her immediate family, and her heart was filled with a generosity of spirit. She was also devoted to her beloved cat, Twister, who brought her much joy and companionship.
Dorothy was known for her creativity and passion, especially in the art of hairdressing. She continued to pursue her craft well into her 90s, demonstrating a talent that spoke to her desire for beauty and connection.
In her later years, Dorothy often expressed a longing to reunite with Virgil, reflecting a love that transcended time and space. She carried his spirit with her, eagerly awaiting the day they would be together again.
