Doyal Gregg

Doyal Clare Gregg of Bartlesville, Oklahoma passed from this life into the arms of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. A closed casket service will be held Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10:00 am in the Sanctuary of East Cross United Methodist Church with Rev. Emery Mason of East Cross, and Pastor Mark Turner of Life Church of Bartlesville, officiating. A graveside service will follow later that afternoon at 2:30 pm at the Cherokee Cemetery, Cherokee, Kansas. Doyal Clare Gregg was born December 5, 1925 in Lawrence, Kansas to Doyal Asbury and Clara Isabel (Jenkins) Gregg. He was raised in McCune, Kansas and Independence, Missouri, and graduated from McCune High School in 1943. Mr. Gregg served his country during World War II in the China, Burma, India Theater of War at the U.S. Air Force (U.S. Army Air Corp) Aircraft Maintenance Depot in Agra, India until the end of the war in 1945. After returning from India, Mr. Gregg met and married the late Emma Bettijean (Sharp) Gregg on June 22, 1947. The couple then made their home in Pittsburg, Kansas where Mr. Gregg attended Pittsburg State University (Kansas State Teachers College) and drove a bus route for the City of Pittsburg. They later moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where Mr. Gregg pursued a degree in Architectural, Mechanical, and Structural Engineering at Kansas State University. Mr. and Mrs. Gregg moved to Bartlesville in 1951 where Mr. Gregg worked as a draftsman for ConocoPhillips (Phillips Petroleum Company - Corporate Engineering), working on such projects the Ekofisk North Sea Platform, various projects at Phillips refineries in Borger and Sweney, Texas, as well as many other corporate projects for Phillips. Mr. Gregg received certification as a Certified Engineering Technician and served as President of the Northeast Oklahoma Chapter of the American Society of Certified Engineering Technicians (ASCET) in the mid to late 1970's. Mr. Gregg retired from Phillips in 1986 after 35 years of service with the company. Mr. Gregg was also a part-time draftsman for the architectural firms of Caldwell-George Associates and Ebert and Associates. Mr. Gregg was active at Dewey United Methodist Church, and later at East Cross United Methodist Church, as a Choir member, member of the United Methodist Men, Council on Ministries, the Administrative Board, as well as serving as Lay Leader in both congregations. Mr. Gregg was also active in the Bartlesville Chapter of Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International (FGBMFI) where he also served as President in the late 1970's and early 1980's. He also sered with the Jane Phillips Auxillary from 1986 - 2001. Mr. Gregg was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Bettijean (Sharp) Gregg in March of 2000, and a son Geoffrey Charles in 1948, as well as both parents. He is survived by Deborah Jean (Gregg), Bennie and Stephen Brown of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Donald Wayne, Marsha, Cameron & Brendon Gregg of Bartlesville, as well as four cousins and many friends.
