Earleen Long-Martensen

ARNOLD MOORE & NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME, BARTLESVILLE, OK (918) 336-5225 - Earleen Rose Long-Martensen, age 93 and resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 in Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville. She was born on January 29, 1924 in Cleveland, Oklahoma to Edna (Luckey) Harding and Earl W. Harding. Her parents were Osage Co. ranchers and her father was a County Highway Supervisor. Earleen attended grade school at Cleveland, home-town of her mother's parents, grand-parents and other relatives. She later attended Lohman School, Blackburn and Rock Schools, all in Osage County, and graduated from Sperry High School with the class of 1941 as Salutatorian. During her high school years, she was the Editor of the school paper, member of the school band and a member of Oklahoma State Honor Society. After high school, Earleen studied accounting at Whitworth College in Brookhaven, Mississippi, banking courses and Spanish in Riverton, Wyoming and French at Wesleyan in Bartlesville. She was employed as a General Motors bookkeeper in Skiatook, Oklahoma, bookkeeper for a plumbing and heating contractor in Brookhaven, Mississippi, as a credit clerk for Brent's Jewelers in Oakland, California. She also was a supervisor of the Proof Department for First National Bank of Riverton, Wyoming. In 1985, she retired from Phillips Petroleum, where she served in the Analysis Branch of Research & Development, after 24 years of loyal service. After retirement, she worked for two years as a salesperson at Gray's Jewelers in Washington Park Mall, Bartlesville, where she was a "permanent part-time" employee. Earleen's first husband, her high school sweetheart, passed away in 1984. He is buried in Shoshoni, Wyoming. On May 22, 1996, she married Jack Martensen. He passed away on August 10, 2005, and is buried in Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, California with his parents, his son and his first wife. Earleen was a 50-year (in 2011) member of First Christian Church of Bartlesville, where she had served as Elder, Deacon and on various committees during those years. She was also a life member of Jane Phillips Sorority (now Jane Phillips Society); past president of Bartlesville Desk and Derrick; and a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Bartlesville Chapter #142; and a member of Bethel Shrine #3, Bartlesville. Earleen will be buried in Osage Gardens Cemetery, Skiatook, next to her parents. Her father was the fifth person to be buried in this cemetery. That was in 1957. He had worked to have the county road on the west side of the cemetery improved to a "Farm to Market" road. Oklahoma State Highway 20 is on the north side of the Cemetery, west of Skiatook. Earleen enjoyed reading, traveling and visiting with her extended family and friends. She had traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe, having made many trips to Hawaii and two trips to Russia. Her motto for life was "Never Stop Learning". She is the last of her generation of family and is survived by several generations of cousins. Come and go visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1-8:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Services for Earleen will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Chapel. Pastor Kim Hames will be the officiant. Burial will follow the service in the Osage Gardens Cemetery, Skiatook. Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
