Edith Mae (Thompson) Gibson, 85, passed away at the Nowata Nursing Center, Thursday morning at 1:50 a.m. on April 23rd. She was born September 9, 1934 in Nowata County. She was the ninth child born to Joe and Aggie Thompson. She started at Lightning Creek Madden School and finished her education at Lincoln High School in Nowata. Edith worked at Jane Phillips for 30 years as a LPN, where she retired in 1999. After retirement, she worked part time at the Osage Nursing Home and later transfered to the Nowata Nursing Center, where she officially retired in 2008. Edith was a faithful and active member in the First Baptisit Church on North Willow. In her spare time, she had passion for hobbies including being a part of the genealogy social group where she earned her master gardener certificate in 2015. She was an active member of the Nowata Senior Center and the church committee. She also enjoyed cooking and baking in her free time and caring for her grand, great and great great granchildren.
She preceded in death by her husband Seywood Gibson; one infant child (Shelly); two sons: Delbert Gibson and Jerry Gibson; her parents Joe and Aggie Thompson; siblings; Everett Thompson, Freddie Thompson, Harold Thompson, Wayne Thompson, Marie Green, Gladys Martin; a great granddaughter and a great grandson.
Edith leaves to cherich her memory: Kelly Gibson and wife Suan of Ausitn, TX, Garry Gibson and wife Brenda of Nowata, OK, Darrell Gibson and wife Kendi of Austin; siblings Floyd Thompson and wife Shirley of Nowata, OK, Vivian Peace of Kansas City, KS, Jean Gibson of San Antonio, TX; 15 grandchildren, 30 great granchildren, 2 great- great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

All are invited to stop by Benjamin Funeral Home, 114 W. Cherokee, Nowata, OK., to view and sign Edith’s book on Tuesday, April 28,2020 or Wednesday April 29,2020 from 9 :00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Due to the limits of 10 people at the graveside a private family service is planned. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Home, Nowata, OK.
