Funeral services for Everett Ovett Sears are 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Nowata with Pastor Cheryl Newton officiating. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service. Everett Ovett Sears, 89, of Nowata passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 at his home. He was born August 18, 1923 in Picher, Oklahoma to Bertha (Lane) and Ralph M. Sears. Everett grew up in Picher and later moved to Commerce where he attended school and met Dora Mae Shipp. They married November 3, 1942 in Miami, Oklahoma. Everett was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during World War II as an Engineer in the CBI Theater. After receiving his honorable discharge, Everett returned to Commerce where he and his wife made their home until 1953. At that time, the Sears family moved to Nowata. Everett worked for Lane & Sears Drilling Co.; was an agent for Western & Southern Insurance, but was best known for the years that he worked for geologist, Jay Robertson as his Office Manager and Draftsman. Everett was a member of Nowata's First United Methodist Church and the CBI (China Burma India) Theater Veterans group of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Everett is survived by two children, Rita Wintjen and husband Larry of Coffeyville, Kansas, Alice Harney and husband Doug of Tulsa; two grandchildren, Todd Wintjen and Steven Harney both of Tulsa; two great grandchildren, Alison and Braden Harney. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Bertha Sears; his wife Dora Mae Sears; two sisters, Mary Shipp and Reba Haynes; two brothers, Clifford Sears and Ralph Edward Sears.
