Freda Bushyhead

Freda Madean (Payton) Bushyhead, Grove resident, died peacefully Sunday night June 6, 2011 in Grove at the age of 77 years. She was born on October 28, 1933 in Jay, Oklahoma to her parents Cecil and Ella Mae (Chrisman) Payton. She attended and graduated from Grove schools. She married the love of her life, Jack Bushyhead on April 4, 1952 in Benton County, Arkansas. They had 9 children and celebrated 25 years of marriage until Jack's death on December 25, 1977. Jack and Freda raised their children in the Whitewater area. Freda worked as a USDA poultry inspector for 30 years until her retirement in 1998. Freda had been a member of Delaware Baptist Church since 1963. She was very active at the church being a song leader, teaching bible school, and ministering to nursing home residents. Freda enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, spending time with her family, and enjoyed traveling when possible. Freda was awarded the "Ga Du Gi" award by the Chief of the Cherokee Nation for her devotion in promoting higher education to Indian students by creating the "Jack Bushyhead Memorial Scholarship" for 20 years. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; son, Gordon Wayne Bushyhead. Freda leaves many loving memories with her family; daughters, Jaxine Gasper and husband Duane of Grove, Lou Ella Weirich of Grove, Charlotte Earnest and husband Mark, of Centennial, Colorado, Leona Forrester and husband Clyde of Ft. Worth, Texas, Sarah Watts of Victoria, Texas; sons, Jack Bushyhead, Jr. and wife Keita of Tulsa, John Bushyhead and wife Terri of Grove, and Jesse Bushyhead, of the home; Grandchildren, Dustin Crawford, Ryan Crawford, Joshua Bushyhead, Rachel Bushyhead, Sarah Bushyhead, Rebecca Bushyhead, Chad Earnest and Kara Earnest; Great-grandchildren, Kaylean, Hannah, Elijah, and Payge; as well as many other loving family members and friends. Visitation will be 6:00 PM -8:00 PM Wednesday June 8, 2011 at the Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Thursday June 9, 2011 at Delaware Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Bishop officiating. Interment will follow at Duffield Cemetery in Jay.
