Garold Leroy Palmer, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, in Grove, Oklahoma.

Garold was born in Bosie Idaho on February 15, 1949. His parents were expecting a baby girl and didn’t have a boy’s name picked out, and since the doctor’s name was Harold, they named him Garold. He was taken home to a two room tent, where his parents, big brother Bennet and his uncle Jim were living.

His father Duane was a builder and a brick layer. His mother Maxine was a homemaker. She was his Cub Scout den mother. She once bought reels for the troupe, helped them make fishing rods and took them fishing and camping. She was also Garold’s homeroom mother, baking a lot of cookies for classroom parties. Maxine was a huge part of Garold’s childhood, always ready to play catch, help him with homework or anything else he needed. When Garold was five years old the family moved to Hayesville, Kansas. He started school in the basement of a church and graduated from Campus High School. Garold had lots of friends and played all kinds of sports. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy and served in Vietnam.

After his military service was complete, Garold went to work for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring after 27 years. He then started a lawn care service. Through Garold’s various jobs, his favorite part was getting to know people. He was always up for a laugh and a visit.

He liked small towns. Enjoyed driving though them and finding unique, out of the way restaurants to eat.

Garold first met Cindy at Wal-Mart where she worked in the electronics department. She sold him TV’s and telephones for his newly built house, two years later they met again. Their first date was December 6, 1998, they had lunch at Main Street Station. Nine weeks and a day later, they were married on February 8, 1999. They enjoyed traveling in their 5th wheel trailer. They traveled to Mount Rushmore, Estes Park, Yellowstone and many other places.

Garold was very patriotic, he loved flags and eagles. He was extremely proud when Good Shepherd Hospice presented him with a flag, certificates and a medallion commemorating his service in the U.S. Navy.

Garold is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Cindy Palmer, who stood by his side through every chapter of their journey together, his son, Gary Palmer and wife Andrea; his daughter, Laura Weaver; and his four grandchildren, Aaron Palmer, Kirsten Landenberger, Kaden Palmer, and Keaton Palmer, and great-granddaughter Haddie Landenberger.

In addition to his immediate family, Garold is survived by three brothers, Bennett Palmer, Keith Palmer, and Tod Palmer, and his sister, Mary Ellen Polk. Garold was preceded in death by his parents; Duane and Maxine (Ferrell) Palmer.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, October 25, 2024, at Bluejacket Cemetery in Bluejacket, Oklahoma. Garold will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched.
