Gene passed away on July 19, 2019 at the Brookdale Assisted Living Facility, Claremore at the age of 88.
The son of Henry Woody and Ada Blonnie Flood, he was born on December 11, 1930. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1947. Following high school, Gene worked for the town of Chelsea before enlisting in the US Air Force in 1951. Gene did his basic training in Fort Sam Houston Air Force Base and trained as a surgical technician. In addition to being stationed at Fort Sam Houston, he also served at the Castle Air Force Base in California. Gene was awarded an Honorable Discharge in November 1953.
Returning to Chelsea, OK, Gene married his wife of over sixty years, Wanda Mae Flood on September 29, 1955 in Vinita. Making their home in Chelsea, Gene worked with his father at the Flood and Son Trucking Co, building a very successful trucking company that help build many of the roads, commercial buildings and dams. One of the most notable projects he worked on was the construction of Lake Eufaula.
An avid fisherman, you could find Gene often fishing in many of the local lakes and a few of his secret “honey” holes. One of his greatest joys was sharing his passion with his family and friends often teaching them to fish for the first time.
A bluegrass and country music fan, Gene was a frequent visitor at Branson, MO from the early days when the Presley’s and Baldnobbers first opened their doors.
His greatest joy and accomplishment were his family. A father of four children, Gene had eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Survivors include his children Patricia Woodward and her husband Michael of Monument, CO, David Flood of Chelsea, Shelly Flood and wife, Charlotte Stith Flood of Redmond, Oregon and Paula Garner-Flood and wife, Lisa Garner-Flood of Sapulpa, grandchildren Derek Woodward, Ashley Flood, Meagan Holt and husband Michael, Daphne Flood, Craig Flood, Cooper Flood, Michael Flood and Cassidy Flood; great-grandchildren Aleigah, Makenzie, Kamran, Addison and William Lafoon, Tyler Holt, Emmett Flood and Layton Duwel.
