Gilbert Lee Caulk, born on October 5, 1944, in Flint, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024. He was the beloved son of Helen Caulk and a cherished figure in the lives of all who knew him.
Gilbert’s life was defined by love and dedication. He was married to Vada for 42 years until her passing, a partnership built on mutual respect and admiration. Following this, he found love again and married Janice Friesen Kenat on September 28, 2019, creating new memories together in their later years.
A proud veteran, Gilbert served honorably in both the United States Air Force and the United States Navy. He was deployed on the USS Nimitz (CVN-68), where he made significant contributions during his service. Throughout his military career, he was awarded numerous decorations for his exemplary service, including the Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, three Good Conduct Medals, a Letter of Commendation from COMAIRWING EIGHT, two Letters of Commendation from the USS Nimitz, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Second Sea Service Ribbon. These honors reflect his commitment to excellence and dedication to his country.
Gilbert had friendships all over the USA that lasted a lifetime. He often took the time to text greetings daily, showcasing his thoughtfulness and connection with friends. He loved to garden, delighting in growing tomatoes and peppers. He especially enjoyed camping with his dog, Peach, and his wife, Janice. The three of them would ride all over the park together in Gilbert's souped-up golf cart.
He maintained an active lifestyle, walking two miles daily and lifting weights, counting reps with rocks for each completed set. Gilbert was also an excellent cook, known for drawing large crowds with his talent for smoking meats on his huge smoker. People from the park would gather around his campsite, sharing stories and laughter for hours on evenings when he prepared a cookout.
Gilbert had strong Republican opinions and was a passionate supporter of the NRA, sharing his love for his right to bear arms with pride.
For many years, Gilbert served as the grounds manager at Cedar Oaks RV Park, a role that allowed him to connect with numerous individuals who came to appreciate his wisdom and kindness. He became a beloved mentor and friend to many, teaching them that there was always a right way to do things—often referred to as “Gil’s way.” His strong yet gentle demeanor left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know him.
