Gloria Sloan, 85, of Jay, OK, lost her fight with cancer but claimed victory when she left this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 10th, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Broken Arrow, OK. The presence of numerous family members in her last days provided great comfort to her.
Gloria was born to Rolly Riley and Mertie (Battin) Riley on January 13, 1937 in Kansas City, KS. She was the middle child between older brother Raymond Riley and younger sister Evelyn (Riley) Smith. She left her hometown of Carl Junction, MO after marrying James (Jim, or Jimmy, as she called him) Sloan on June 17, 1952 in Bentonville, AR. They spent the next seventeen years or so living in various locations in Colorado, Wyoming and Oklahoma while growing their family with the addition of four children; Brenda, Carla, James and Rhonda before settling in Jay, OK in 1969.
Gloria spent over thirty years providing care for elderly people in the Jay area. She developed very close relationships with several of those people and loved them as if they were her own family.
Through her life she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, yard sales, burning brush and baking. She is well known within the family for making many things including banana bread, oatmeal cookies, cherry wink cookies and pancakes. More than anything, she enjoyed growing all kinds of plants, trees and flowers. She definitely had a green thumb and shared many “starts” with friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Jim Sloan; James Sloan, son; parents, Rolly and Mertie Riley; Raymond Riley, brother; and Evelyn Smith, sister. She is survived by children; Brenda Lamb (Steve), Carla Stone and Rhonda Bedwell (Dave), eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
