Grandville Griffin

April 11, 1910 — January 27, 2008

Grandville R. "G.R." Griffin, 97 year-old Grove resident, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the Grove General Hospital. He was born April 11, 1910 in Pensacola, Oklahoma to Hubert M. and Mary Katherine (Deitrick) Griffin. G. R. married Ethel Lina Linam in September of 1936 in Miami, Oklahoma, she preceded him in death on June 20, 2007. Mr. Griffin was a former County School Superintendent for Delaware and Craig Counties, he also was coach, teacher for many years at numerous schools in northeast Oklahoma. G.R. was involved in education for 48 years of his life. He was the past president of the Northeast Oklahoma Teachers Association, a member or the Who's Who in American Educators and was very influential in the introduction of Vo-Tech Schools in the area. After his retirement from education, G. R. worked as a Real Estate Broker in the Grand Lake area. He was a member of the Langley Christian Church and a 32 degree Mason, with Adair Masonic Lodge #99. The family includes; his three sons, Gary Griffin and wife Ilene of Mounds, Oklahoma, Dr. Larry Don Griffin of Saudi Arabia, and Creel Griffin and wife Georgia of Ketchum, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Others that preceded him in death were his parents and a sister Lura Ann Nugent in April of 2004. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Luginbuel South Grand Lake Chapel in Langley. The funeral will be held, Saturday February, 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Langley, with Pastor Joel Rutherford officiating. Interment will follow at the Row Cemetery in Colcord. Arrangements are by the Luginbuel South Grand Lake Funeral Home.
