Gregory Downing

Gregory Lavern Downing, former Nowata, Oklahoma resident, left this life to be with the Lord, Monday, September 2, 2013 at his sister's home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was one of seven children and was born June 12, 1958 in Nowata, Oklahoma, to Hershel R. Downing and Martha J. Hubbard. He was in the 1976 graduating class at Nowata High School and continued his education at Eastern Oklahoma State College and University of Central Oklahoma. Gregory was a salesman working at Evans Furniture, Woodcraft Furniture and for the past nine years at Snows Furniture, all in Tulsa. He enjoyed collecting old furniture, and books. He was an avid OU Football fan, and enjoyed talking about and watching sports. He was a very personable man that loved talking and meeting new people. He will be missed by all who knew him. Gregory is survived by his mother, Martha Jo Downing of Nowata; four children, Jennifer James and husband Greg of Little Elm, Texas, Rachael Downing of Dallas, Texas, Devin Hester of Tulsa, Conner Downing of Tulsa; Six siblings, Rudy Downing of Delaware, Brian Downing of Owasso, Regina Downing of Tulsa, Maria Downing of Nowata, Monique Downing of Tulsa, Anntwan Downing of Nowata Numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Tami Hester. He is preceded in death by father Hershel Downing, grandparents Daisy Downing, Hooley Downing, George Hubbard, Leona Hubbard and a daughter, Baby Girl Downing. Funeral services for Gregory are 2:00P.M., Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Mississippi Street First Baptist Church in Nowata with Rev. Farris Downing officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Rogers County, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
