Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Oklahoma, 918-786-2261 Halbert (Hal) Campbell Heath Obituary - Death Date: January 6, 2018 Halbert (Hal) Campbell Heath, aged 89, died peacefully Saturday January 6,2018 at home in Grove Oklahoma, after struggling with heart failure and ALS. He was born October 2, 1928 in Kendall, NY to George Horace Heath and Ruth Jean Halbert Heath. He joined the Army Air Force February 18, 1946 at age 17. He played the clarinet in Air Force band in Germany and was in Fife and Drum Corps in Berlin. He served in Berlin six month during the Berlin Blockade under General Lucius Clay. He was discharged December, 1948. In 1951 he reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served as chaplain's assistant in Amarillo, TX. When the Korean War ended in 1953 he was discharged a second time. While teaching he joined the Navy Reserve and served 15 years as Yeoman. He retired after twenty years of military service as Chief Petty Officer. In 1962 Hal earned a Bachelor of Music degree with Organ Performance major from Wisconsin College of Music in Milwaukee. He had a life-time career serving a variety of churches as choral director and pipe organist. In 1967 Hal received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He taught junior and senior high school vocal music for 23 years in Markesan, Wisconsin. His greatest joy was preparing students to perform at district and state competitions, school musicals and school concerts. After retiring from public education he moved to Milwaukee where he taught in Catholic elementary schools for twelve years. While living in Milwaukee he sang with the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus for five years. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists and Wisconsin Music Education Association. He judged piano and vocal student competitions statewide for over 100 music festivals organized by Wisconsin School of Music Association. In 2009 Hal retired to Grove, Oklahoma where he taught voice and piano lessons privately at home. Hal's passions included working with young people, playing a pipe organ, reading, riding his BMW motorcycle or his 650cc scooter, and talking about cars especially 30s Packards. Hal was active in the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church since 1973. He was a temple worker in the Chicago and Oklahoma City Temples for 16 years. He enjoyed working with young missionaries and believed strongly in every member a missionary and daily Bible reading. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ollhoff of 25 years. His sister Joan Ward; seven children: Scott, Brett (Jenny), Todd, Lisa (Ron) Shirkey, Christopher (Claudette), Cheryl and David; stepsons Dennis (Leslie) Schade and Jim (Melissa) Schade; ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Joan Stichmann and step son William Schade. A Grove memorial service will be held at the LDS Chapel on January 13th at 10 am. Church is located at 1104 Lee St. The Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements. A second family and friends memorial will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield on February 3rd with 12:30 until 2:00 visitation and service at 2:00, followed by placement of ashes and reception. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to LDS Missionary Fund or USO.
