Harlon Dixon

Harlon Erwin Dixon, 89, died Monday, April 20, 2009 in New Mexico. Harlon Erwin Dixon was born on October 17, 1919 in Bartlesville, Ok to Frederick E. and Mary Ellen (Mollie) Sullivan Dixon. He attended the Bartlesville Public Schools graduating in 1937. He attended Texas A&M College Class of 1943 graduating in 1948 with a B.S. Degrees in Petroleum Engineering and mechanical engineering. He is a veteran of World Was II having served in the U.S. Air Force from April 1942 to February 1945. Most of his service was as a clerk at air bases in Nebraska. He was discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. He joined the Cities Service Oil Co. in October of 1948. He retired form Occidental Petroleum Corp on October 1, 1982. He was associated with the Cities Service Oil Co. as a Petroleum Engineer for 34 years form 1948 to 1982. He was also associated with the Morning Examiner as a news carrier and the U.S. Bureau of Mines as a laboratory aide prior to attending college. He married Monica Kiolbasa on February 12, 1945 in Clarks, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on August 17, 1976 in Bartlesville, Ok. He married Evelym (Coulter) (Smith) Vernon on May 28, 1982 in Bartlesville, Ok. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2000 in Bartlesville, ok. Mr. Dixon was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the 55+ Activity Center. After retirement he was active in the Cities Services Retirees Group, area square dance clubs and the Mobile Squares RV Club. Mr. Dixon is survived by four sons: David with Maribeth of Mountainair, NM; Michael with Shiela of Apopka, Fl; James with Laura of Waltham Ma; Russell with Gwen of Tulsa, Ok; and five daughters: Claudia Davis of Sugarland, Tx; Jean with Dr. Fred Silva of Evans, Georgia; Mary Ellen with K.S. Lee of South Korea; Ann with Stephen Riggs of Oklahoma City, Ok and Kay Dixon of Bentonville, Ar. He is also survived by Eleven Grandsons, Eleven Granddaughters, Ten Great Grandchildren, one sister Dixie Rahorst of Junction City, Ks, one sister-in-law Sara Margaret Messall and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made In Memory of Harlon Dixon, American Cancer Society, 4110 S. 100th E. Avenue, Grant Building, Suite 101, Tulsa, Ok 74146. A Mass of the resurrection will be held at 10:00 am on Monday in the sanctuary of St. John Catholic Church with The Reverend Festus Maliwa officiating. Rosary for Mr. Dixon will be said at 7:00 pm on Sunday in the Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Funeral services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home.
