Helen Patricia (Foreman) Raines, age 88, was born December 30, 1923 in Estella, Oklahoma on her parents' farm and passed away on January 28, 2012 in Tulsa. Her parents, Ray Foreman and Myrtle (Keithly) Foreman preceded her in death. Helen Pat, or H.P. as she was frequently called, was an only child. Her husband of 63 years, William Benjamin Raines, passed away May 5, 2007. She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Kay (Raines) Saunders and her husband Russell of Owasso, two grandchildren, Shana Rae (Saunders) VanAtta (John) of Owasso, and Craig Russell Saunders of Tulsa, and two great grandchildren, Maxwell William VanAtta, age 10, and Alexandra Jane VanAtta age 6. MiMi enjoyed her time with her family and coming to Vinita was a special time for the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen Pat attended Vinita schools graduating in 1941 as President of her class. She always enjoyed the All-School Reunions and was one of the first committee members to organize this continuing event. After graduation she attended Oklahoma College for Women for one year. Her work experience consisted of working at the Craig County Bank, Ronnie Moore Insurance Agency, Craig County Election Board and was the Craig County Tag Agent from 1954-1968. Her last job as Tag Agent gave her the opportunity to meet most everyone in Craig County at one time or the other. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as organist for many years. H.P. has always been interested in politics and was a charter member of the Craig County Federated Democrat Women's Club and a charter member and past president of the local organization Epsilon Sigma Alpha where she was recently recognized as being a member for 67 years. She has been a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, a volunteer of the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Craig General Hospital and other charitable organizations. The family requests that memorials be made to their favorite charity or to the Vinita Public Library. Services will be Wednesday, February 1 at 2:00pm at the First Christian Church in Vinita. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery for family only. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com
