James “Jim” Hubert Grasmick, a man who knew no strangers and was known for his love and devotion to his family, passed away on September 27, 2023. Jim “celebrated” his 88th birthday being life-flighted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Jim was born of German immigrants on September 24, 1935, in Lodi, California. His family ultimately settled in Rocky Ford, Colorado, as farmers. Following graduation Jim worked in the molybdenum mines in Climax, Colorado. Ultimately, Jim returned to Rocky Ford working the farm with his dad. He worked for a period of time for Valley Concrete, Rainbow Bread and ultimately retired as manager of Rancher’s Supply in La Junta.
July 1, 1956, married his highschool sweetheart, Bette Taylor. Celebrated 67 years of marriage. Jim and Bette were members of La Junta Baptist Tabernacle for 40 years . In 2021, Jim and Bette moved to Grove, Oklahoma, to be near family. Since moving to Grove, they have been members of Grace Harbor Baptist Church. On November 3, 2023, the family will have a Celebration of Life service at Grace Harbor.
Jim enjoyed all sports throughout his life; not necessarily playing but was an avid “armchair quarterback”.
James is preceded in death by his son James “Andy” Grasmick, and sister Elaine Grasmick. James is survived by his wife, Bette who resides in assisted living; daughter, Jayme of Kansas City and husband Daniel; Donnie Stewart (Andy’s wife); brothers, Richard, Edward, Gerald Grasmick; grandchildren Jonathan Wiles and wife Jeanne, James (JT) Wiles and wife Ashley, and Eli Grasmick and wife Michele; Great grandchildren Jessalynn Wiles, Josiah Wiles, Oliver Wiles and Emersynn Wiles, Jagger Grasmick, and Novalie Grasmick.
