James Roy Newman, a cherished figure whose kindness and welcoming spirit touched the hearts of many, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, in Jay, Oklahoma, just shy of his 96th birthday. Born on August 23, 1928, in Dumas, Arkansas to Wesley and Violet (Kirtley) Newman, James lived a life filled with love, hard work, and countless adventures.

As a dedicated banker at Delaware County Bank, James exemplified the values of integrity and community service. He made lasting connections with his clients and colleagues, always lending a listening ear and a helping hand. His professional life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to those around him, reflecting the very essence of his character.

Beyond his career, James found joy in simple pleasures. He loved fishing and spending time in the yard. Together with his beloved wife Rosa Lou, James enjoyed traveling across the United States, embracing the landscapes, cultures, and experiences that enriched their lives. Their bond, built on love and companionship, was evident to all who knew them.

James is preceded in death by his wife Rosa Lou, son Seth Newman, and parents Wesley and Violet Newman.

James is survived by his son, Mark Newman, and wife Ningwen Chen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, daughter, Amy Newman of Jay, Oklahoma. Grandchildren: James Roy Newman II, Ashton Newman, and Yijin Liang, each of whom brought immense pride and happiness to his heart. In addition, he is remembered fondly by his sister-in-law Nancy Mouser of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and niece Audrey Elegbede of Rochester, Minnesota.
