Jerry Hopper

April 5, 1949 — September 21, 2015

Luginbuel South Grand Lake Funeral Home of Langley 918-782-4400, --Jerry Hopper, 66 year old Spavinaw resident, passed on September 21, 2015, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on April 5, 1949, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the middle of three boys, son of Kenneth L and Pat (Heiser) Hopper. Jerry and his brothers spent every summer and most weekends at Grand Lake, where several sets of grandparents lived. After attending Tulsa Central High School and Ketchum High School, Jerry entered the military in 1969, during the Vietnam War. He was a paratrooper with the 82nd Army Airborne, most of his service in Germany. Upon returning to Grand Lake, Jerry worked in construction with men like Homer Brown and Bob Flock. His experience enabled him to found Hopper Construction, with his brother Tom, in 1972. Many of his custom home clients became lifelong friends. In 2008, Jerry bought Jones Hardware. He grew the business and expanded the lumberyard. Jerry went to work every day he was able, up until his passing. Learning CAD drawing, Jerry first used it in home construction, and later in designing doors for airplane hangars. Jerry was an avid golfer, and raised roosters. One of the great joys of his life was his daughter Megan, born in 1987. She and husband Erik gave Jerry his only grandchild, Maisy, this past year. Jerry's longtime friend, John Knotts, convinced him to take a trip to Thailand. Jerry fell in love with this country, and returned many times. It was here he also fell in love with his wife-to-be, Kae. After several years together, they were married on July 6, 2007. Their son, Aiden, was born in 2013. Preceding Jerry in death was his father, Kenneth L Hopper. He is survived by his wife, Kae, of the home;, his mother, Pat Hopper of Langley, a daughter, Megan Berga and husband Erik of Pensacola; a son, Aiden, of the home; one granddaughter, Maisy Berga of Pensacola; two brothers Mike Leffingwell of Grand Lake, and Tom Hopper and wife Regina, of Langley; a very special nephew and friend, Tommy Hopper; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to South Grand Lake Lions Club Scholarship Fund, St Jude's Children's Hospital, or Home of Hope. A public celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 10:30 AM at First Christian Church of Langley, Reverend Joel Rutherford officiating. In private family ceremonies, Jerry's remains will be placed atop his hill in Spavinaw among the trees, and in the ocean waves of Thailand, places he loved very much. Arrangements are by the Luginbuel South Grand Lake Funeral Home of Langley. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
