Jesse "Jess" Jumper, 73, left his earthly home on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in Jay to join the Great Spirit in Heaven. Jess was a full blood Cherokee Indian, a member of the Cherokee Nation. He was born September 1, 1940 to Jess and Nellie (Little Dave) Jumper in Mayes County, OK. Jess married the love of his life, Mary Lou Wiley on August 6, 1964. They made their home in Sycamore Springs, OK, where he worked for the Delaware County Road department for many years. After working for the county, he worked for the City of Jay, retiring in 2002. Jess loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, who are his greatest joy. He loved camping, fishing, and listening to his sons play music. Jess was proud of his Native American heritage, he loved passing on the stories he was told which will be passed for the many generations to come. Jess enjoyed playing his harmonica, piano, and guitar. Jess is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey (Bodee); grandson, Michael Hodson; brothers, Roosevelt and George Jumper and Frank Elamore. He leaves many loving memories with his family, wife, Mary Lou, of the home; daughters, Abbie Forman and husband Tommy, of Jay, Jenniffer Hodson and husband Steve, of Kenwood, Tammy Goforth and husband Rob, of Eucha, Jonell Jumper, of Jay; sons, Ronald Jumper and wife Angela, of Jay, Jess Jumper and wife Barbara, of Kenwood, Randall Jumper and Danny Jumper, of Jay; 19 grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving relatives. Jess will be truly missed by all who know and love him. We take comfort in knowing someday we will be reunited again in Heaven. Wake service will be held at the family home at 42678 South 667 Road, Jay, OK on Sunday March 23, 2014 starting shortly after 5:00 PM. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday March 24, 2014 at Sycamore Springs Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Sycamore Springs Cemetery. Pastor Duke Pickup and Booly Forrest will officiate. Casket Bearers will be Gary Beaty, Billy McKee, Steve Hodson, David Jumper, Michael Jumper, and Johnny Jumper. Honorary bearers will be Danny Jumper, Russell Hodson, Jonathan Jumper and Joshua Wiley.
