Jimmie Hataway

Jimmie J. Hataway, born June 24, 1941 passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008. Jim was born and raised in Oklahoma City and attended Central State University (now the University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond. After graduating college in 1963, he was a high school teacher and coach. He entered the military in 1966, retired in 1993 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military career included two combat tours. In 1976, while still in the service, Jim was awarded a Masters of Education degree from Georgia State University. Jim and his wife, Shirley, were married in the summer of 1964. Their only child, Brian, was born February of 1967. For the next 26 years, Jim's assignments in the military took he and is family far beyond the borders of Oklahoma. In 1993, upon retiring from active duty he returned to his love of teaching in the public school system at MacArthur High school in Irving, Texas. While there, he revitalized the JROTC program where his precision rifle drill team won three national championships. In 2000, Jim's travels with Shirley returned them full-circle to Oklahoma and a peaceful retirement in the city of Grove. Jim has been a very active member of the Grove Church of Christ as well as a member of the Military Order of World Wars. Jim is survived by: wife, Shirley of Grove, Oklahoma; son, Brian of Orlando, Florida; grandsons, Michael and William of Orlando, Florida; brother, Tim Hataway of Edmond, Oklahoma; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Grove Church of Christ with a military burial ceremony to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 14, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Worley-Luginbuel Home of Grove (www.honoringmemories.com) (918) 786-2261. The family requests memorials to the Christian Medical Clinic, 700 South Main, Grove, Oklahoma 74344. "Even though Jim has moved on, he will live on in our hearts. Because, real love is forever."
