Joan Jane Talbot, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 12th, 2024, at the age of 95 at her home in Grove OK.
Born in Wilmington KS to Iva May (Sowers) Reed and Thomas Walter Reed on June 22, 1929, Joan was the first of 6 children. She was raised on the family farm and graduated high school in Harveyville, KS in 1946. She married Earl Edgar Parker in 1952 and they began a family. They were later divorced, and she married James Earl Talbot in 1962. Joan worked various jobs throughout her life; she drove an EFD Delivery truck, she was also a Pharmacist Assistant in Belton, Missouri, which she loved, and she later retired from the IRS as a Document Control Clerk. After retirement Joan spent lots of time with family and was a beloved and cherished grandmother, always traveling around with her little red suitcase. Joan was a fun loving person who had the gift of gab and never knew a stranger. She loved going out and was always up for fun and adventure, once even driving a stock car in a Powder Puff race. She enjoyed lively political discussions, playing bingo and was an extraordinary card player. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed reading her bible. In later life, Joan resided with her son Michael and his wife Bonnie in Burlingame KS. Her constant companion was her beloved dog, Baxter. She spoiled him and took him everywhere she went; they were inseparable. After a car accident, Joan moved to Grove OK to be cared for by her daughter.
Joan was preceded in death by her sons, Michael Wayne Parker, and David Lee Parker. Surviving children include William Dean Parker (Patty), Kevin Leslie Talbot (Tamra) and Karin Lynn Dwillis (Shawn). She was also the proud grandmother of Barry, Kelly, John, Charlie, Anthony, Nick, Luke, Brian, Seth, and Dustin. In recent years she became a great grandmother as well. She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Kopp (Earl), Donna McMechan (Stan), and Laura Withers (Bob), and her brother Jim Reed (Lorene) and many nieces and nephews
