John Carroll

John Henry Carroll, 89, died Sunday afternoon, November 9, in Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was born October 3, 1919, in Alluwe, Oklahoma, the only child of Leo W. and Anna Frisbie Carroll. In 1920, the family moved to Nowata, where he attended school, graduating from Nowata High School in 1937. John married Ruby Lloydene Wiley June 14, 1940, and they had two children, John Henry, Jr. and James Leo. He married Hilda Freeman in 1951 and they had two children, Connie Rae and Robert Wayne. John was a World War II veteran, serving in Germany in 1944-45. In 1948, he went to work for the U.S. Post Office in Bartlesville and remained there until his retirement in 1989. He lived in Nowata most of his life, moving to Bartlesville about eight years ago. He was a lifelong Catholic, attending church at St. Catherine in Nowata and St. John in Bartlesville. John is survived by one daughter, Connie Tallman of Nowata; three sons; John of Nowata, James of Jefferson, Texas, and Robert of Rush Springs, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren: Jamie Hollon, Harleton, Texas; Christy Bartlett, Boise, Idaho; Craig Carroll, Duncanville, Texas; Nathan Hathcoat, Nowata, Oklahoma; Brett Hathcoat, Nowata, Oklahoma; Kyla Clemons, Norman, Oklahoma; Jake Carroll, Moore, Oklahoma; and, Mary Kay Bauman, Nowata, Oklahoma; and, 17 great-grandchildren: Rachel Kulp, Ross and Rory Hollon, Harleton, Texas; Cassie, Taylor and Anna Bartlett, Boise, Idaho; Dillon, Camden, Dara, Brevan and Abria Carroll, Duncanville, Texas; Nichole and Ethan Hathcoat, Nowata, Oklahoma; Destiny Edwards, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Allison Clemons, Norman, Oklahoma; and Katie and Hayden Bauman, Nowata, Oklahoma. A Rosary Service will be held at Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata, Oklahoma, Wednesday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by Father Mike Cashen at St. Catherine Catholic Church Thursday, November 13, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery.
