John Lingo

John Rogers Lingo, passed away at his home in Bernice, OK on Monday, August 26, 2013 at the age of 77. John was born December 4, 1935 in Bernice, OK where he lived for most of his 77 years. John was the son of the late Roy C. Lingo and Elizabeth (Rogers) Lingo. He attended and graduated from Cleora High School in 1953. While attending Cleora High School he played basketball. After graduation, John went to work in the asphalt and construction business which he did most of his life. John married Carolyn Burris in Grove, OK on July 15, 1970. He was huge OU fan and also enjoyed BBQ cooking, and working in the yard with his tractor. Most of all John loved to be with his family especially his grandkids. John was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grove. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of the home; one daughter Sherri Dunbar and her husband Danny of Bloomington, IL; sister Vonda Absher of Vinita, OK; brother Richard Lingo and his wife Jane of Sherman, TX; brother Jerry Lingo and his wife Janet of Vinita, OK; granddaughters: Erica Scott and her husband Russell of Glenpool, OK and Aubrie Stephenson and her Fiancé Matt Hosie of Broken Arrow, OK; nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as "Uncle Biggie"; honorary family members Kathie, Audrey, and Christie Hart; and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Grove, OK on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 2PM with Rev. Jim Paslay, presiding. The burial will follow at the Olympus North Cemetery in Grove, OK. The family will greet friends from 6PM to 8PM on Wednesday evening at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK. Friends and family may leave notes of encouragement by viewing John's Book of Memories at www.honoringmemories.com. Casket bearers will be Brad Absher, Brent Lingo, Rich Matters, KJ Matters, Jason Lingo, and Danny Knight.
