BENJAMIN FUNERAL SERVICE NOWATA, OKLAHOMA 918-273-2700....
Joyce Elaine Sudderth went home to her heavenly father on Monday, February 4, 2020, in her hometown of Nowata, OK, at the age of 80.
Joyce (Patton) Sudderth was born to Robert and Mary Patton on October 22, 1939, in Chelsea, OK. She was raised in a loving home with eight brothers and sisters. After attending school in Chelsea, she married Howard Scott and they had three sons; Mark Howard Scott, Steven Scott and Tony Scott. During this time, she graduated beauty school and operated her own beauty shop in Nowata, OK, which she very much enjoyed.
On February 23rd of 1974, Joyce married the love of her life, Bob Sudderth. Marrying Bob gained her another son, Rick Sudderth, and daughter, Lisa Stacy. During Bob and Joyce’s life together, they owned various businesses throughout the United States and Canada. Some of the most exciting times of Joyce’s life were spent traveling the country with Bob, enjoying the company of old friends and meeting new ones. She also loved vacationing every summer with her husband and their two oldest granddaughters, Karah and Brandy.
In her recent years, Joyce’s primary loves were her family and her church. She cherished family celebrations and holiday meals. Joyce was the financial secretary of Nowata’s First Christian Church and was honored to hold that office. She was also instrumental in arranging for sanctuary flowers for church holidays. Joyce was a member of Disciples Women and the Monday Morning Prayer Group. Besides family and church, Joyce was totally devoted to her dog, Mercy, who she adored.
One of Joyce’s daughters-in-law called her Martha Stewart of Nowata, an apt description. Joyce loved to cook gourmet meals and eat in restaurants known for quality food. She loved nature and enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the doe with twin fawns just outside of her yard. She also loved growing vegetables and flowers each summer, and always had flowers or other seasonal décor on her front porch. She was conscious of fashion and tried to keep abreast of the trends. Her granddaughter Chrissy’s favorite memories include the time Joyce spent with her, shopping and helping her prepare for school dances and proms. Most of all, Joyce cherished life and enjoyed those around her, which included family, friends, and neighbors. While injuries and illness affected the last few months of her life, she remained gracious and thankful for each day.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Bob Sudderth, of the home; her son, Steve Scott and his wife Brenda, of Tahlequah, her son, Tony Scott and his wife Robbie, of Nowata, her son, Rick Sudderth, of Nowata and her daughter, Lisa Stacy of Nowata. She was also a loving Oma to eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren that loved her greatly. She also leaves behind her Labrador Retriever, Mercy, that she loved very much.
