Kenneth "Big Dog" Sherrets, age 74, died following a brief but hard fought battle with Mesothelioma on Tuesday, October 1st, 2019. He resided in Grove, OK with his wife, Beverly, of 47 years of marriage.
Ken was born in Omaha, NE on July 26th, 1945. He joined the United States Army in 1962 and completed three tours during the Vietnam War. In 1971, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service as a member of the Regional Telecommunications Office of the Public Safety Division during September 1970 to August 1971. He was honorably discharged in 1974.
Ken married Beverly on March 13, 1972. Following his military discharge, Ken and Bev left Colorado Springs to start their life in Omaha, NE. He was very successful in business in which he held positions such as Vice President of EMC Insurance as well as owner and President of KS Software and ISAC Systems. Ken retired as a Senior Network Engineer from the Omaha World Herald in 2010. Following retirement, Ken filled his time with a seemingly endless number of projects including building and repairing cars, motorcycles, and boats, radio communications, and of course cooking. His love of motorcycles led him to the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) where he served as Commander for both the Nebraska Chapter and the Grand Lake Chapter in Oklahoma. Those who knew Ken will remember him for his endless stories, wealth of knowledge, generosity, and his amazing food.
Ken is survived by his wife, Beverly Sherrets; his daughters, Susie Sherrets, Nichole (Mark) Smith, and Lindsey Knight; his two grandchildren, Shelby Sherrets and Devin Brun; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, 711 S Main St, Grove, OK 74344, Sunday October 6th at 2:00pm - 4:00pm with a reception to follow at the Grove Community Center, 104 W 3rd St, Grove, Oklahoma 74344. A burial service will be held at Ken's final resting place at the Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schramm Rd, Omaha, NE 68138 at a later date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, Ken has requested a memorial scholarship to be established in his name. Donations can be sent to the CVMA at 1380 S 628 Lane, Grove, OK 74344.
