Larry Haley Sanders, age 82, of Grove, Oklahoma, passed away December 16, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas. Larry was born in Grove on September 23, 1942, to Haley and Billie (Carey) Sanders. He attended Dodge School, Grove School, and Oklahoma State University. He married Darlene Hale of Grove on June 8, 1962, at Dodge Baptist Church.
Larry is survived by his wife Darlene; daughter Amy (Sanders) Jones and husband Carl of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; son-in-law Rick Howard of Grove; brother Brent Sanders of Grove; sister Lenore Lewis and husband Steve of Port Charlotte, Florida; five grandchildren: Devin Howard of Hartford, South Dakota; Megan Cook of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Paige Yarborough of Grove; Olivia Greathouse of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; Jerek Jones of Broken Arrow; six great-grandchildren: Scott Howard of Lake Wales, Florida; Riley Howard of Hartford, South Dakota; Cooper and Hudson Cook of Broken Arrow; Paisley and Colter Yarborough of Grove; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Vida (Sanders) Howard.
Larry worked at B.F. Goodrich Co. in Miami, Oklahoma, for many years. He also had worked as a brick mason with his father-in-law and brothers-in-law, and as a glazier with his son-in-law. Larry loved spending time with family and going on trips to Florida, where you could find him enjoying shrimp and sunning on the beach. He liked reading, studying history, gardening, and drily telling a good joke. Larry frequently volunteered at the Christian Mission Thrift Store as well as delivering Gideon Bibles.
Larry was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith, in recent years attending the Grand Lake Baptist Church in Grove.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, at 10 a.m. at Grand Lake Baptist Church, with burial at Olympus North Cemetery in Grove. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, from 2-4 p.m. at Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Services will be led by Rev. Gary Butler of Skiatook, Oklahoma, assisted by Rev. Tim Potts and Lloyd Messimore of Grand Lake Baptist Church. Pallbearers include Chris Brown, Lance Myers, Lloyd Messimore, Jared Hale, Garrett Messimore and Calvin Gaston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon Bible Fund at Grand Lake Baptist Church, 1531 98th St., Grove, OK 74344.
