Lois Splinter

Lois Leavitt Splinter passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 23, 2009. She was born to Earle W. and Bessie Jordan Leavitt on March 30, 1915 on the family farm near Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1936 with majors in mathematics and education. She subsequently received a Master's degree in education from The University of Chicago and a Master's degree in mathematics from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. She taught in five states-Alabama, Nebraska, New York, California and Oklahoma. After teaching high school mathematics for fourteen years in Bartlesville, she retired in 1977. She was an active member of the local Retired Teachers Association, serving twice as president, and secretary and treasurer for three years each. Along with her husband, she was active in the Air Force Sergeants' Association. She loved genealogy and leaves her family with a well-researched family history. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bartlesville and served several terms as elder. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Otis Leonard Splinter; her daughter Shirley Reddell; and her brother Berton Leavitt. She is survived by her sister Gertrude Deats; two sons, Garth (Michele) Splinter, M.D. of Oklahoma City, OK and Steve (Adrienne) Splinter of Centerville, Utah; and a daughter, Beth (Steve) Smith of Salina, OK. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Yvonne Fernandez, David Splinter, Janelle Splinter, Aaron Smith, Jacob Smith, Katie Smith, Jessica Splinter and Rachel Splinter and four great-grandchildren. Lois was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was lovingly cared for in her home by her daughter Beth Smith for her last two years. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 30 in Bartlesville, Okla., at the First Christian Church. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 1 at the Aurora Cemetery in Aurora, Nebraska. Memorials in her name may be made to the Abiding Memorial Fund, First Christian Church, P.O.
