Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, OK (918) 256-5555.....Lonnie M. Brixey went to be with the Lord October, 21, 2018. He was born October 4, 1941 in Vinita to Frank and Bessie (Nix) Brixey. He grew up on a large dairy farm in Pensacola, OK. He graduated from Adair High School in 1959. In 1961, he married Reva Lee in Vinita, OK.
The following year, Lonnie enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country from 1962 to 1966. He completed basic camp in San Diego, CA. He was a hospital corpsman specializing in electrocardiograph and metabolism technic at the United States Naval hospital.
Upon returning in 1966, Lonnie and Reva made their home in Vinita. He worked as a 1st Lieutenant for the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety serving as chief dispatcher for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, retiring in 1986. Upon retirement, he continued work at Vinita UPS until retiring a second time in 2003. Lonnie's hobbies included camping, traveling, riding horses, boating, watching OU football, and going to his granddaughters' activities. Lonnie was a member of the Vinita Church of Christ. He loved his church family.
He is survived by his wife, Reva, of 57 years. Daughter, Jennifer Garland and husband Clay and granddaughters, Whitney and Natalie Garland. One surviving sister, Margaret Minson, of Watertown, SD along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, are siblings Edna Gaye, Ella George, Ruth Darnell, Howard Brixey, Roberta Roberts and Alberta Cohrs, along with one infant son, Lonnie Lee Brixey, Jr.
A celebration of life will be held at the Vinita Church of Christ Thursday, October 25th at 2 pm with Bob Hampton officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Thompson, Jerry Goins, Dick Roberts, Frank Haltom, Frank Everett, LaRoe Haney, Garry Evans, and Skip Briley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
