Funeral services for Louis are 12:00 P.M., Friday, December 1, 2017 at Hillside Christian Church in Nowata with Rev. Vincent Orange officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Creek Cemetery in Lernapah, Oklahoma. Family will be receiving friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Benjamin Funeral Service. On November 22, 2017 Louis Matthews Jr. passed away at his home in South Coffeyville. On October 10, 1934 a baby boy was born to Louis and Vera (Jones) Matthews, in Lenapah, OK. Louis was raised and received his education in the Lenapah area. Louis attended Douglas High School until 1952. He married Pearl Urbina Edwards in Tulsa, OK on June 23, 1962. This marriage was blessed with four daughters and one son. Louis was a longtime and faithful member of Little Flock Baptist Church of South Coffeyville, OK. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Ritz Club. Louis was also an active member of the Lenapah High School School Board. Louis was self-employed as a farmer his entire life. He was a hard worker and loved being outdoors. He enjoyed traveling with Pearl and seeing all the different places. Louis enjoyed visiting with family and friends most of all and will be dearly missed. Louis is survived his five children, Kathy Clark of Nowata, Antonio Isaac Matthews of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Lisa Louise Matthews Orange (Vincent) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Angela Denise Matthews Houston of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, and Rosalind Matthews McGee (Troy) of Midland, Texas, his siblings, Willa Mae Logan, Rosa Mae Thomas, Charles Rowe, Benjamin Matthews, Richard Nave, Cornelius Phelps, Evelyn Matthews, Ramona Pyles, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death his wife, Pearl, his parents, two brothers, Robert Matthews and John Matthews, and one grandchild, LaChrisha Clark.
