Marion “Jimmy” Swinford, 87, passed away on April 23, 2021 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Jim was born on July 9, 1933 to Marvin Clifton Swinford and Letha Mae (Medlock) Swinford at Keota, Oklahoma. The family moved to Tulsa when Jim was about 10 years old, he attended Roosevelt Junior High School. Jim worked as a mechanic before the Korean War. Jim entered the military in October of 1952, serving in the Army 519th Field Artillery, 36th Group, 5th Company, 7th Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War and served until January 1955.
Jim married Shirley Ann Hutchison on May 29, 1955 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The couple resided in Tulsa until moving to Inola, Oklahoma in 1967. After serving his country, Jim worked as a Machinist at Pattern Maker for FWI Inc., General Pattern and the computer manufacture Telex.
Jim enjoyed coaching his kids in Pee-Wee league sports, while Shirley kept the scorebooks.
When Jim and Shirley moved to the Jay area, he went to work for the Delaware County Clerk’s office in February of 1984. Jim retired in 1999, following 6 years of serving as the elected County Clerk.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, brother Harvey Swinford, a daughter Marcella Swinford, son Clifton “Sonny” Swinford, and granddaughter DeEdra Hancock.
He is survived by three sons: Jimmy Swinford, Johnny Swinford all of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Gerry Swinford of Jay, Oklahoma; two daughters Deanna Ryan of Coweta, Oklahoma and Lisa Minix and husband Bill of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jim was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 5 almost 6 (one is in the oven) great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 on April 26, 2021 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 27, 2021 at Southside Church of Christ. Jim will be laid to rest in Duffield Cemetery.
