Mary Cordray

Mary Cordray, 73 year old rural Vinita resident, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, with her family by her side at her home. She was born December 1, 1938 near Chelsea, Oklahoma to John and Marguerite (Clark) Hampton. Mary was a graduate of Vinita High School. Mary married Samuel Ray Cordray on August 15, 1956 and moved out to the family farm, where they spent 56 years together working the land, raising cattle and dairy farming. She loved walking with Sam every night around the farm. Mary was very active in her church, the Bunker Hill Baptist Church. She had taught children's classes, drove the church van and was the Bible School Director for over 50 years. She served her community by acting as a first responder in the Centralia area and assisting with county elections as a precinct worker. She also had a passion for gardening, and found joy working in her yard, and flower and vegetable gardens. Mary had a great love for children and, in addition to her work in day care, she and Sam cared for many foster children through the years. She and Sam especially loved camping with their son, Tony and nephew Billy, which they continued to do with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary never missed a sports activity, school play or graduation of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Sam; a son Tony Cordray and wife Cathy of Vinita; two grandchildren, Bucky Cordray and wife Janelle of Tulsa, Sammie Prince and husband Brian of Vinita; three great-grandsons, Alex, Zach and Luke Prince all of Vinita; a sister, Frances Williams and husband Lonnie of Eucha; brother, Bill Hampton and wife Jo of California; along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Skip McClain and Dr. Henry Haynes officiating. Interment will follow at the Timpson Chapel Cemetery. Casket bearers will be, Johnny Spence, Craig Spence, Tom Spence, Jarrod Lamb, Roy Williams, and Jr. Barnett. Honorary Bearers are Lewis McGee, Lowell Walker, Omer Williams, Marvin Beisley, Bill Hampton, and John Hampton. Friends may give to the Bunker Hill Baptist Church Children's Department.
