Mary E. Sills longtime Miami, Oklahoma resident has passed away at the age of 79 after a brief illness in Joplin, Missouri at Freeman Hospital.
Mary was born to William J. “W.J” and Ann Elizabeth “Betty” (Ulrich) Snyder in Vinita, Oklahoma on January 3, 1941. The Snyder family resided in the Vinita area prior to living in Blue Jacket for a short time before making a permanent home in Miami. Mary was the oldest of five children. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Miami prior to obtaining her Associates Degree at NEO also in Miami.
Mary and Kenneth Battenfield were united in marriage and blessed with three children; Joani Marlaine, David Richard “Rick” and Kenneth Ray “Kenny”. Mary worked at the First National Bank for several years prior to employment with B.F. Goodrich. At the closure of the Miami plant she chose to retire. Mary enjoyed gathering with family and friends. Her grandchildren who knew her best as “Memaw” were the apple of her eye. Kenneth preceded her in death on March 9, 1991.
In August of 1991 Mary and Robert “Bob” Sills were united in marriage and made their home in Miami. Mary and Bob shared 17 years together until his death on February 25, 2008.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Joani and husband, Keith Thompson; son, Kenny Battenfield and his wife Debbie; step sons, Robbie Sills, Mike Sills and his wife Pam, Gary Sills; brother, Jerry “Jug” Snyder and wife Brenda; sisters, Charlotte Arnold and Sharon Phillips; grandchildren, Shae Brown, Loreylee Lyons , Kenzi Rae Fallick, Jordan Battenfield and Norma Alanis, Shiloh Thompson; and 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Rick Battenfield.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 5-7 pm at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 225 B St. NW Miami, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the All Saints’ Episcopal Church under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove, Oklahoma, at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at the Fairland Cemetery. The family has requested memorial contributions be mailed to the All Saint’s Episcopal Church.
