Saturday, May 11th at Nowata United Methodist Church, 109 West Shawnee Ave., Nowata Oklahoma with Pastor Jeffrey Rickman officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service. Nadine was born August 23, 1920 at Ransom, Kansas to Lula Mounkes Darling and Arthur Darling. She was second to the oldest of five children. She was raised on their family farm until they moved to Manhattan, Kansas during Great Depression. After high school graduation in 1939, she attended Business School and went to work at Kansas Power and Light Co. She married Buford Dale Winters July 3, 1942 after he earned his degree in Veterinary Medicine and they moved to N. Carolina where their first child Kenneth was born in 1943. They then moved to Chanute, KS to start a private veterinary practice and their two daughters, Shirley and Phyllis, were born there. Nadine was a homemaker and also assisted Buford in his veterinary practice. Nadine loved to cook, sew and take care of her family, but also enjoyed time with friends and family playing cards, hunting, fishing, water skiing, and traveling in their motor home. She saw that her family was raised in church and had a well-rounded life. When Buford retired from private practice in 1962 and went to work for the US Dept. of Agriculture they moved to Vinita, Oklahoma and found more time to spend at Grand Lake. After a few years lake life called stronger and they then moved to Grand Lake where they enjoyed fishing, traveling in their motor home, and teaching all their grandchildren to water ski and fish. In 1997 they moved to Nowata to live closer to her daughter, Phyllis. Her husband, Buford, passed away in 2009 after being married 62 years. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were always a joy to her. Nadine will be missed by all who knew her. Preceding Nadine in death were her parents Arthur and Luloa, her 2 brothers, Irvin and Frank and 2 sisters, Phyllis and Nola and her husband Buford Winters. Survivors are children: Kenneth D.
