Norma Ballenger

Norma "Jean" (Jarvis) Ballenger, age 80 of Cleora, died Thursday, July 7, 2011. Jean was born in Old Bernice on May 28, 1931, the daughter of Bailey and Marie (Wallen) Jarvis. She was a 1948 Cleora High School graduate and later attended Miami Business College. On October 27, 1951 she was united in marriage to Billy Ballenger and together raised two daughters. Jean worked for in the bookkeeping department for Production Credit for five years and Sears in Bartlesville for many years. She was a leader of the Blue Stem Girl Scout Council for numerous years. As a hobby she also worked as a seamstress, helping make costumes for the 6th grade plays. She was a member of the Cleora Methodist Church and a volunteer cook for the South Grand Lake Meals on Wheels. Survivors include her husband Billy Ballenger of Cleora, daugthers: Sherri Fent and husband Roger of Miami, Cindy Layton and husband Larry of Welch, siblings: Billy Jarvis and wife Anita of Big Cabin, Jonnie Hensley of Cleora, Sandra Powell of Cleora, and Charlotte McSpadden and husband Kenith of Ketchum, sister-in-law Vera Jarvis, five grandchildren: Russell Fent and wife Kelli, Sara Fent, Nathan Fent and wife LeeAnn, Rowdy Layton and wife Tiffany, and Tara McLain and husband J. R., six great grandchildren: Taylor Fent, Jace Fent, Aubrey Layton, Landry Layton, Lucas Layton, and Sage McLain, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jean is preceded in death by her parents Bailey and Marie Jarvis and two great grandchildren: Layton and Lakin McLain, brother Norman Jarvis, and sister Faye Towell. Memorials may be made to the South Grand Lake Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 548, Ketchum, OK 74349. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Luginbuel Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Cleora Methodist Church with Pastor Rich Brasher officiating. Interment will follow at McLaughlin Cemetery.
