Rev. Thomas Jack Hill was born May 22, 1934 to Herman Jack and Alice Marie (Glass) Hill, he was the fourth child of eight children. He was given the nickname (Blackie) by his Aunt Sara Wright because of his dark black hair. He was raised and received his early education in Nowata and graduated from Lincoln High School in Nowata, Oklahoma.
He joined the Army in November 1953, which he was an Para-Trooper of special duty, and served two years with an honorable discharge in 1955.
In 1956, he married Wanda Lee Peace, to this union, three sons; Victor La'Roy Hill, Marty Lee Hill, Prentis L. Hill; two daughters Lisette Carvone Hill. And Charita Maria Hill.
Thomas accepted Christ at an early age. In 1961 he joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Nowata, Oklahoma. This is where he was called to preach and was ordained by his cousin C.D. Downing in 1962.
Rev. Hill worked at Oklahoma Steele Co. in Tulsa prior to relocating his family to East Palo Alto, California in 1966. This is where he resided for 41 years until he moved back to his home town of Nowata, Oklahoma.
In 1967, he joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in East Palo Alto, California, under the direction of Rev. James Daniels. After Rev. Daniels retired, Rev. Hill then served under the direction of Rev. John Walters. Rev. Hill became Assistant Pastor of Starlite Baptist Church, before becoming Pastor at Calvary Church in Menlo Park, California.
While ministering, he worked full time at Los Altos Sanitation Company for 28 years before retiring in 1996.
Rev. Hill loved everyone without regard to creed or race. He had a heart of gold; he would give the shirt off his back, lend a listening ear, provide kind and encouraging words, and a lasting hug that can be felt forever. Rev. Hill touched many hearts throughout his years.
Rev. Hill leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mrs. Wanda Hill; three sons; two daughters; brother Clarence G. Hill; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
The Family of the late Rev. Thomas (Blackie) J. Hill wishes to thank everyone for their kind expressions of sympathy, prayers, and all acts of kindness extended to them during their hour of bereavement. All tributes will be acknowledged by the family at a later date.
