Richard Hawkins Johnson of Bartlesville, Ok. passed away Sunday morning, August 13, 2006, at the Jane Phillips Medical Center. Memorial services for Mr. Johnson will be held Thursday, August 17, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Oak Park United Methodist Church, Bartlesville, Ok. followed by interment at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor David Stewart will lead the services. Funeral services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Johnson was born in Cook County, Tx, December 6, 1914 to Wiley Hawkins Johnson and Mary Belle LeMaster. He was a veteran of WW II. He served in the 7th Air Force, Army Air Corps from March 24, 1942 to November 11, 1945. He saw action in the central Pacific, West Pacific and Ryukus. He was honorably discharged from the service November 12, 1945. Richard H. Johnson entered into active service in the U. S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas. He received his basic training at Cheyenne, Wyoming, after which he was transferred to Fort Stockton, California and from there to Hawaii. After landing in Hawaii, they were transported by boxcars to Schofield, Hawaii. He was assigned to Hickom Field across the fence from Pearl Harbor, and his group was attached to a division of the Army Air Corps. From Hawaii, they were sent in a convoy to the Christian Islands, where they joined other ships and sailed to Guam. From Guam they were sent to Okinawa, Japan. They arrived seven days after the Marines and Infantry had landed and taken the island. His company remained on Okinawa until the end of the war. They were packing to be deployed to Japan proper when the atomic bomb was dropped. From Okinawa his company was shipped out to Portland, Oregon, and from there to Fort Bliss, Texas where he was discharged Six of the twelve Johnson brothers were in service at the same time in branches of the Seabees, Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. He was a rancher all his life, working in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, S. Dakota, and Oklahoma. He managed the Hulett Ranch in Pawhuska for 30 years before he retired in November 1987, and moved to Bartlesville, Ok. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle Hammer White in 1982, and by his second wife Guila Mills Kerby in March 2002. He was member of the Oak Park United Methodist Church. He is survived by: stepdaughter and son-in-law, Sammie and Jim Clingenpeel, Bartlesville, Ok. grandson, Alan Clingenpeel and wife Susan, Hot Springs, Ak. And great grand children, Will and wife Katie Clingenpeel, Houston, Tx, Guthrie and Lindsay Clingenpeel, Hot Springs, Ak; two sister-in-laws Bea Johnson of Amarillo, Tx, and Inez Johnson of Melrose, N.M.; a niece, Betty Smith of Avant, and other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Florence Echols, and brothers: Frank, Clyde, Everett, Earl, Bruce, Woodrow, Hugh, Howard, Robert, Roy, Earl, Jesse, and Paul.
